Katie came to me when I was going through some of the roughest times of my life. My first dog, Misty, had just recently passed away and I was going through a painful divorce. There were many days when she was the only reason I was able to get out of bed. She kept me going, always loving me and listening to me and just being there when I needed someone to hug and love. She was the truest friend and most beloved companion. She was with me when I met Paul, got married and brought Emily and Joey into our family. Thankfully she was part of many more happy times with me than sad. Katie will be greatly missed and be in our hearts forever.

When she was about 12, she went deaf, but that didn't slow her down or keep her from monitoring where her Mommy was at all times. She would lay down in whatever path she thought I was going to walk so that she'd wake up when I went by. As the years passed, it was easier to step over her. Whenever she'd wake up, her first movement was to look for me. Now, I'm always going to be looking for her... In February of 2006 we found out she was in kidney failure. The Vet gave us 3-6 months with her with daily IV fluids and a homemade diet. We were blessed - she lived another 14 months! She just wasn't ready to say good-bye and neither were we.
My favorite poem that many know and love is "Rainbow Bridge" By: Melanie White (Copyright 2003) There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other. But there is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the days comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring and this one suddenly runs from the group. You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
Now Katie can run and play in Heaven with my old friends Misty and Wendell. She can hear and see again. I'm so thankful for every moment with her. God was so good to give me my Katie Girl and I will be eternally grateful.
