In loving memory of my beautiful palamino Holly who I loved so much. Holly will be greatly missed and be in my heart forever.

Holly & Jeannie

Holly has been my best friend for 23 years, it was so hard to have her put down, but she was in a lot of pain and loosing a lot of weight. I know she is now in heaven with my mom and sister. When I first met Holly she was a two year old filly. She was down at the end of a very large pasture, I whistled and she looked up at me and started running toward me, I though "Oh no, she is going to run over me" as she got closer, she stopped and turned her rear end to me and wanted me to scratch her rear end. I was in love. I bought her from a girl that could no longer afford to feed her. I spent every day with her training her to walk and trot at the halter. We went to our first show and she took a second place out of 36 mares. I was so happy.

Then it was time to send her away for training so I could ride her. I sent her to my friend Jackie. One day when I went out to observe the training, Jackie said to me, "do you remember all the water lillies I had in the water trough?" I said "yes and what happened to all of them?" Jackie told me that Miss Holly loves the water and one day she caught Holly in the water trough with all fours in the water eating the lillys. Jackie said to Holly, "What are you doing in there?" and Holly just looked at her like oh, I am in big trouble and backed out real carefully. The trough was huge and round and full of water lillies when I first took Holly there, when Holly got finished, it was completely empty.

Then there was the time I forgot to latch the gate and Holly knew how to open it, she and her friend Jessie went next door to the neighbor's and decided to trot all over the beautiful sod lawn they had. Well, I received a call from the neighbor and she said "The horses got out, trotted all over my lawn, and one is in the pool." I asked which one, she said "The light colored one." Opps, that would be Holly. I was sort of embarrased, but laughed about it.

The day I had to put her to sleep, she turned around and gave me the very same look when we first met. I spent a lot of time with her that day, just hugging and kissing her, and I know she thought "what is going on?", she kept pushing her colt away so she could be near me. I wonder if she felt my sadness towards her. I tried not to cry in front of her. Hugs and kisses Holly. Starbuck misses you. I can't believe it has been almost a year since she has been gone, I miss seeing her in the pasture. She would be so pround of her colt, he has grown to be quite the handsome man.

Two years have passed since I had to put my Holly down. I still miss her and I catch myself every once in a while thinking I see her in the pasture
